Thanks for visiting WhenMusicWasMusic.org A member-supported, commercial-free, gathering place to talk about and listen to old vinyl Christmas records. This site was originally developed with the intent to document my progress converting and restoring my old vinyl LP's, and also to streaming them over the internet. Now we've grown into a community of folks with similar tastes. A lot of this stuff is simply unavailable anywhere, or is getting very hard to get, and we want to document it before it's gone. Also with the advent of digital audio (iPod, MP3, etc....) almost nobody has a decent phonograph to play records on anymore. I'm always looking for more albums to save, so If you have a bunch of albums in the closet or in the basement, won't you consider making a donation? I'd Love to save them! -David Merrick, (admin) |

We're picking up the pieces around here. We had a bad storm come through Friday and nuked the main computer that runs the feed. To make matters worse, we keep losing power every 12 hours. This in itself isn't as bad as the fact the audio processing equipment got it's settings corrupted. Sorry if the feed doesn't sound as good as it did, I have to manually tweak all the settings back to where they were. Let me know what you think about the sound quality as I adjust it over the next few weeks. -David |

It seems that audio cleanup and processing is a hot issue with many varied opinions. The problem is that all opinions on the amount of audio cleanup are valid because everyone has different tastes. My Approach to audio cleanup tries to reach the best sound quality possible with minimal losses to the original source material. |

If anyone wants to listen to Christmas music in the off-season, you're in luck! I'm going to put the stream back up for the summer! It's going to use the AAC+ codec, so you will have to use winamp, but you should get really good quality with a 24kbps stream. It'll be .mp3 at 56kbps mono, should be decent quality, and support all the major players. Maximum 32 50 Listeners.
Let me know how it works for you. Also, A heads-up: The site will be working/not-working on and off as I make changes. So if a part of the site is broken, I'm probibly working on something...... Update (3/27/09): Moved the streaming server back to the Linux box. The windows server was throwing me fits. Contact me and let me know if you have any issues connecting. Please include your operating system (XP, Vista, MacOS, Linux....) as well as whhat player you are using to listen to the stream and which streams you have tried (winamp, Windows Media Player, Real, iTunes...) also Date/Time you tried to connect. |
